The government has confirmed it will begin transitioning into a new virus management system, dubbed “With COVID-19,” in November.
Senior Health Ministry official Lee Gi-il said Friday that authorities plan to start gradually adjusting current social distancing levels in two weeks, while taking into account the quarantine situation and vaccination progress.
The official stressed that the next two weeks will be a critical period in determining the direction of quarantine, as the transition in November is contingent on increased vaccinations, curbing new cases and managing severe ones.
The deadline was set in consideration of the two-week period needed to reach full efficacy after completing vaccination. About 70 percent of the population is expected to receive their final shots by late October.
Earlier on Friday, the government extended Level Four in the capital region and Level Three in other areas for another two weeks until October 17.
