Credit and debit card users can begin to apply for the government's cashback incentive on card spending that will run for the next two months.
According to the Finance Ministry, applications open on Friday through nine credit card companies, starting with people whose birth year ends in one or six. It will continue next week on Tuesday through Friday with the numbers two and seven, three and eight, four and nine, then five and zero.
The government will give ten percent cashback each month for excess spending of over three percent compared to the monthly average from the second quarter.
If a card user spent an average one million won a month in the second quarter, then spent one-point-53 million won in October, they would receive 50-thousand won in cash points.
Up to 100-thousand won per customer will be given each month. The program will end once the total budget of 700 billion won has been spent.
Spending at large retailers, department stores and online shopping malls will be excluded as the program aims to boost consumption in face-to-face services amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
