Prosecutors have confirmed that a high-ranking prosecutor was involved in a political meddling scandal that took place when the opposition's leading presidential contender, Yoon Seok-youl, was prosecutor-general.  

The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office on Thursday said it found evidence of former senior prosecutor Son Jun-sung's involvement and transferred the case to The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials(CIO), which is also investigating.

Son, a former aide to Yoon, is suspected of conveying pre-written complaints against several pro-government figures to prosecutor-turned-opposition politician Kim Woong ahead of last year’s general elections.  

Prosecutors, meanwhile, sent to the police a defamation case filed against Yoon by Cho Sung-eun, the whistleblower and former deputy chief of the election committee of the now-defunct United Future Party. 

They said the case does not fall under their investigation.
