The Air Force reported Thursday that it has established a space center under the Air Force Chief of Staff.

The center will devise and implement space policy as well as work with the Defense Ministry, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Korea Aerospace Research Institute and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute on projects related to boosting space capabilities.

The Air Force said the center is part of efforts to advance its performance of space strategies and operations based on the three-stage development program "Space Odyssey 2050” revealed in 2013.

In the first stage, the Air Force plans to boost intelligence support by 2025 through acquiring earth observation and miniaturized satellite systems, as well as a system to project space weather.

In the second stage, the Air Force is aiming to strengthen by 2030 abilities related to recognizing space domains in all weather conditions and the ability to carry out operations countering space threats.

In the final stage, the program centers on acquiring the capacity to implement space operations in all weather conditions by deploying early warning satellite and satellite jamming systems by 2050.
