KDCA Reports 2,564 COVID-19 Cases

More than 25-hundred COVID-19 cases were reported on Thursday amid a continued surge in infections after the Chuseok holiday.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that two-thousand-564 new infections were detected throughout the previous day, raising the country's accumulated caseload to 311-thousand-289.

The tally marks the fourth highest figure and largest Thursday figure since the outbreak of the pandemic. The previous high for Thursday was two-thousand-152 reported last week.

Of the new cases, two-thousand-539 were local transmissions, while 25 were from overseas.

The greater metro area accounted for 77-point-five percent of local cases, reporting one-thousand-968. Non-capital areas added 571 cases.

Seven more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-481. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-eight percent. The number of critically ill patients rose by five from the previous day to 336.
