Industrial Output, Consumption, Investment Fall in August

Last month marked drops in industrial output, investment and consumption due to a resurgence of COVID-19 infections. 

According to Statistics Korea on Thursday, the nation's overall industrial production decreased point-two percent on-month in August.

The country's overall output declined for the second straight month after a rise of one-point-six percent in June. Additionally, it marks the first time since May that all three indexes posted drops. 

Production in manufacturing industries fell point-four percent from a month earlier, while service sector output dropped point-six percent on-month.

Retail sales, a key indicator of consumption levels, decreased point-eight percent from a month earlier. Also, facility investment dropped five-point-one percent on-month last month.
