Police plan on Monday to question Kim Man-bae, the biggest shareholder of the asset management firm Hwacheon Daeyu, which is at the center of a favoritism scandal.
Police in Seoul’s Yongsan district said they plan to speak with Kim as a witness.
According to an audit report on the company posted on the Financial Supervisory Service’s Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System in April, Kim borrowed 47-point-three billion won from the firm in long-term loans.
Police plan to ask Kim about the nature of the money and where it was used.
They earlier questioned the head of the firm, Lee Seong-moon, about borrowing nearly two-point-seven billion won from the firm and then repaying the loan while also borrowing an additional one-point-two billion won with other company executives.
Hwacheon Daeyu took part in the development project in Seongnam's Daejang-dong when Gyeonggi Gov. Lee Jae-myung was mayor of the city. Allegations of preferential treatment have been raised after the firm was found to have collected considerable profits.
