Evacuees brought to South Korea last month as "special contributors" from Afghanistan held their first interview with the Korean media.
Coming out of a two-week mandatory quarantine, three Afghan nationals on Monday met with reporters at a state-run facility in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province. They talked about life in a new country and future hopes.
The group said they felt nervous and afraid in Afghanistan but now feel safe, thanking all Korean people and especially the Justice Ministry.
On whether anything was inconvenient during their two-week isolation, the Afghans said there were no problems and everything was provided for. They expressed their gratitude to the medical team that assisted with children and pregnant women, but hoped for support with jobs and education.
The Justice Ministry said Friday that the 390 evacuees have fulfilled quarantine requirements. Interviews will begin Tuesday so they can receive foreigner registration cards within a week's time.
