A union representing workers at commercial banks and public financial institutions announced it would stage a general strike next month, after it failed to reach a collective wage agreement with management.

Some 100-thousand union members plan to launch the walkout during lunchtime. Last week, 92-point-47 percent of union members had voted in support of the strike.

At a rally on Friday, the union said the decision comes after the employers showed no desire to change their position for the past five months.

The two sides have yet to narrow differences after the union demanded a four-point-three-percent wage increase for full-time workers, compared to the one-point-two percent raise proposed by management.

The union is also demanding a halt to indiscriminate branch closures without an agreement with the union and the same lunch time for all workers.
