The government said on Thursday that it has won a lawsuit filed against the descendants of a Japanese collaborator, confiscating seven plots of land in Gyeonggi Province worth some 53 million won.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the descendants had inherited the land in question from pro-Japanese politician Lee Kyu-won, who was designated a Japanese collaborator in 2007.

The ministry has won 17 such lawsuits to date, collecting real estate from descendants of collaborators worth nearly 30 billion won in total with five more cases still ongoing.

The government has actively filed suits against descendants of such supporters based on the Special Act on Asset Confiscation for Pro-Japanese and Anti-national Collaborators to the State, which was last revised in 2011.
