The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday that it has developed a database of people's movements in and around the city.

The database includes information on population movement between points of departure and arrival and the required time, based on the hour, gender and age. It combines inputs from public transportation, mobile phone signals and traffic volume gathered by the Korea Transport Institute, among other sources.

Anyone can view the data on the website (data.seoul.go.kr), which is updated monthly.

Areas have been divided into more than 18-hundred sections for more sophisticated data collection. Seoul City will use the information in devising policies on transportation networks and housing sites.

Data shows that Seoul residents spend an average 53 minutes commuting one way. It takes longer for men to go to school or work in all age groups, with the exception of those in their 20s.
