The government will start considering a transition of the COVID-19 management system in November after 70 percent of the population has completed vaccination.

Senior Health Ministry official Son Young-rae said Wednesday that the country is likely to see the benefits of expanded vaccinations from November, such as a reduction in new, serious and fatal cases.

As for new daily cases spiking above two-thousand again, Son highlighted the importance of maintaining strict quarantine in September.

In response to criticism over the ineffectiveness of quarantine and calls for an early transition, the official stressed that social distancing is critical in curbing the spread and that a transition should be carried out in phases.

The government plans to transition into a system that focuses on the management of serious cases and the death toll over reducing new cases.
