A Seoul court has again rejected a lawsuit filed by the family of a late victim of Japan’s wartime forced labor against a Japanese company.

The Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday dismissed a compensation suit filed by the four surviving children of the deceased victim, surnamed Jung, against Nippon Steel.

Jung had previously testified that he was forced to work in a steel mill of Nippon Steel in Kamaishi from 1940 to 1942 under dire conditions. His family filed a suit for damages of some 200 million won in April 2019.

The same court last month rejected a compensation suit filed by the bereaved family of another victim of forced labor against Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, saying that the statute of limitations ended three years after 2012.

That's the year the Supreme Court ordered the Seoul High Court to reconsider its compensation ruling against four Korean forced labor victims.
