Provincial police have busted a drug ring that distributed narcotics through a mobile messaging app.
According to the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency on Tuesday, they arrested 14 people for selling drugs and detained 37 others for purchasing them. Four of these buyers were arrested for habitual narcotic abuse.
The police also seized almost ten kilograms of drugs, including methamphetamine, ketamine, marijuana and ecstasy worth 21-point-nine billion won, and 47 million won in cash.
The sellers smuggled in the drugs from Vietnam and the Philippines through air mail and sold them through the Telegram messenger app.
Out of the 51 arrested, 24 are in their 20s, while 14 others are in their 30s. Sixteen are women, including former television personality Amy, who is accused of taking methamphetamine more than once.
Amy had previously been convicted of abusing the intravenous sedative propofol in 2012 and oral sedative zolpidem in 2014.
