Justice Minister Park Beom-kye says he will consider additional measures, including a joint investigation by the ministry and Supreme Prosecutors’ Office(SPO), in regards to allegations surrounding former Prosecutor-General Yoon Seok-youl.
Park made the remarks on Monday before the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee. He was responding to a report that prosecutors under Yoon pushed an opposition party figure to file complaints against ruling camp figures before last year’s general elections.
The minister said a swift and stern investigation is crucial given that the issue has drawn the interest of both the public and political circles and is matter of honor and political neutrality of the prosecution.
Park noted that the SPO is investigating the report by online media outlet Newsverse on orders from Prosecutor-General Kim Oh-soo. He added that it has secured the personal computer of Son Joon-sung, the prosecutor that reportedly delivered the complaint documents to lawmaker Kim Woong.
The minister said the SPO should set a deadline in its fact-finding efforts to swiftly provide answers, adding that an official investigation would be considered if such efforts fail to shed light on these allegations.
