South Korea reported nearly 15-hundred new COVID-19 cases on Sunday amid the continued nationwide spread of the virus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Sunday that one-thousand-490 new infections were registered throughout Saturday, raising the country's accumulated caseload to 260-thousand-403.

The daily figure dropped by 314 from the previous day but the drop is mainly attributed to fewer tests over the weekend.

Of the new cases, one-thousand-461 were local transmissions, while 29 were from overseas.

By region, the capital area accounts for nearly 71-point-five percent of all new domestic cases, including 505 in Seoul and 441 in Gyeonggi Province.

Six more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to two-thousand-321. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-89 percent.

The number of critically ill patients dropped by 13 from the previous day to 363.
