A survey shows that public opinion regarding the ruling camp-backed revisions to the press arbitration law is almost evenly divided.

A poll of one-thousand-12 adults by Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research International and Hankook Research showed that 46 percent of respondents expected the bill to have a greater negative impact on the freedom of the press and their editorial rights.

Forty-three percent, on the other hand, anticipated positive effects such as curbing fake news and raising media credibility. Eleven percent declined to give a clear answer.

Among supporters of the ruling Democratic Party(DP) and those who consider themselves to be progressives, 75 and 65 percent, respectively, gave a positive opinion.

This is in contrast to 77 percent of supporters of the main opposition People Power Party(PPP) and 69 percent of conservatives overall who assessed the revisions negatively.

The survey, conducted from Monday to Wednesday, had a confidence level of 95 percent with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points.
