Inflation growth hit a record high for the year for the second consecutive month in August.

According to Statistics Korea on Thursday, the country's consumer price index came to 108-point-29 in August, up two-point-six percent from a year earlier.

The index grew two-point-six percent on-year in July as well, the highest growth for the year.

Consumer prices grew more than two percent for the fifth consecutive month, which has not been seen since January to May 2017.

The gain in August is partly attributed to rising prices of agricultural, livestock and fisheries goods, which rose seven-point-eight percent from a year earlier.

The prices of industrial products gained three-point-two percent on-year, the largest growth since May 2012, when they rose three-point-five percent.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and oil prices, rose one-point-eight percent on-year in August, the largest growth since August 2017.
