A new report has shown women were paid about 64 percent of the salaries of their male counterparts last year.
According to data processed by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family from two-thousand-149 listed firms, men earned an average of 79-point-eight million won in 2020, compared to the average of 51-point-one million won for women.
The gap stood at 35-point-nine percent, down point-eight percentage points from 2019, the ministry said on Wednesday.
Length of employment also differed between men and women, with men staying at a company for an average of 12-point-two years versus eight-point-two years for women.
The wage gap also existed in the public sector, where men working at 369 public agencies earned on average 77-point-six million won last year, compared to women earning 56-point-one million won.
Men on average worked 13-point-eight years per company, compared to women with eight-point-eight years.
