The U.S. military forces stationed in South Korea said on Tuesday that 53 COVID-19 cases involving U.S. military personnel, their families and employees recently tested positive for the virus.

According to the U.S. Forces Korea, 40 of these cases were confirmed on base in Osan and Pyeongtaek, for two days through last Saturday, while 13 U.S. soldiers who recently arrived in South Korea also tested positive for the virus.

Although the USFK does not announce a daily tally but instead discloses cases compiled at irregular intervals, it marks the largest number unveiled so far during a single announcement.

More than 80 U.S. soldiers, families and employees at Osan Air Base were diagnosed with the virus this month alone.

The cumulative caseload involving the USFK now stands at one-thousand-350.
