KBS will launch an exclusive, around the clock broadcast service related to relaying disaster information that will be accessible to the public anytime, anywhere.
In a report to Cabinet Tuesday, the Korea Communications Commission outlined a comprehensive plan on strengthening disaster broadcasting.
Under the plan, KBS, as the nation's leading provider of disaster coverage, will create an exclusive 24-hour channel through the multi-mode service or MMS platform.
The network will also enhance cooperation between broadcasting companies and local authorities to better prepare against natural disasters.
The communications watchdog will also provide specially designed TV sets to visually or hearing-impaired people and portable radios to households vulnerable to natural disasters.
Sign language interpretation for disaster-related broadcasts will be mandatory for all
national broadcasters and other cable news and general programming channels as well.
