Police raided the Seoul Metropolitan Government as part of an investigation into allegations that Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon distributed false information during April's by-election.
On Tuesday, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency began a search at the city government's urban transportation and planning departments, to obtain documents regarding its approval of the "Pi-City" multi-distribution complex project from 2006 to 2011.
During a televised debate, Oh is accused of violating the election law by falsely denying his then-city administration was involved in a major political lobbying scandal surrounding the complex. Oh previously served as Seoul mayor from 2006 to 2011.
The Pi-City project consisting of a department store, offices and a distribution facility in Seoul's Seocho district, was halted due to insufficient financing after much-delayed city approval in 2009.
In 2012, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office(SPO) indicted then-President Lee Myung-bak's two close aides for bribery regarding the project approval.
