Authorities reported one-thousand-487 new COVID-19 cases on Monday amid the continued nationwide spread of the virus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that the new infections detected throughout Sunday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 250-thousand-51.

The daily figure dropped by 132 from the previous day to fall to the 14-hundreds apparently due to fewer tests over the weekend.

Of the new cases, one-thousand-426 were local transmissions, while 61 were from overseas.

By region, the capital area reported 901 cases, accounting for 63-point-two percent of domestic transmissions. The tally fell below one thousand after remaining above the threshold for five straight days.

Non-capital regions added 525 cases, including 83 in Daegu and 61 in South Gyeongsang Province.

Five more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to two-thousand-284, with the fatality rate at zero-point-91 percent. The number of critically ill patients dropped by eight from the previous day to 396.
