A group of Afghan evacuees who arrived in South Korea on Thursday have been transferred to a temporary facility in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province.
According to the Justice Ministry on Friday, 377 Afghans who assisted South Korea arrived in Jincheon with their families at around noon after staying at a hotel in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, overnight.
Most received negative COVID-19 test results at Incheon International Airport. Test results for 17 people haven't been confirmed and will undergo further testing in Jincheon.
The Afghans received short-term visas upon arrival, but the Justice Ministry will eventually grant residency visas that permit employment.
The group arrived in South Korea at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday after departing from Islamabad, Pakistan onboard a South Korean military aircraft. A smaller, second group is set to arrive early Friday afternoon.
The evacuees worked at the South Korean Embassy, a Korean hospital and vocational training center in Bagram, or with a rehabilitation team based in Charikar.
