Window seats on trains for next month’s Chuseok holiday will be open for sale first, similar to last year, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on Wednesday, after window seats on train rides from September 17 to 22 are sold, it will decide whether to allow sales of the remaining seats in accordance with the virus situation.

Senior Health Ministry official Park Hyang said further forecasting of the situation during the Korean Thanksgiving holiday is necessary as the virus spread continues and vaccinations are ongoing.

The official said authorities will take into consideration the fact that no clusters have been reported on trains and that 70 percent of the population is slated to have at least one vaccination before the holiday.

Korail ticket reservations will open for three days from August 31 and those for SR will run for three days from September 7.
