The National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee has passed a revised bill that aims to prohibit Google and Apple from requiring software developers to use their in-app payment systems.

The committee passed the bill dubbed the “Anti-Google Law” on Wednesday which seeks revisions to the Telecommunications Business Act.

Apple earlier in the day had released a statement denouncing the bill. The iPhone maker said the changes would put users who purchase goods from other sources at risk of fraud as well as impair privacy protection and make it difficult to manage purchases.

It went on to project that the revisions will lead to a decrease in user trust in App Store purchases, hence resulting in fewer opportunities for the more than 482-thousand registered developers in South Korea who have earned more than eight-point-five trillion won to date with Apple.
