Authorities reported one-thousand-509 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, up 91 from the previous day.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said one-thousand-470 were local transmissions while 39 were from overseas. The latest infections raised the country's accumulated caseload to 239-thousand-287.

The number of cases are expected to increase on Wednesday as some testing centers in southern regions were closed early on Monday due to Typhoon Omais.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum on Tuesday instructed the government to expand onsite inspections and pre-emptive COVID-19 testing at places that employ many foreign workers. This comes after the proportion of foreign residents testing positive for COVID-19 rose to as high as 13-point-six percent recently.

By region, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for 960 local cases, or 65-point-three percent of the total.

Non-capital regions added 510 cases, including 72 in Daegu and 68 in South Gyeongsang Province, taking up 34-point-seven percent of domestic cases.

Six more deaths have been confirmed, raising the death toll to two-thousand-228. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-93 percent.

The number of critically ill patients rose by 21 from the previous day to 420.
