The national team head coach announced at a press conference on Monday the roster of 26 players for the third Asian qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

While those playing for foreign leagues, such as Son Heung-min, Hwang Ui-jo and Hwang Hee-chan, were named, Lee Kang-in of Valencia CF, who was on the Tokyo Olympic team, was left out.

Coach Paulo Bento said Lee's exclusion had nothing to do with the Olympics, but that it was a technical and tactical decision.

Meanwhile, Cho Gue-sung of the second-division military club Gimcheon Sangmu, who was left off the Olympic roster, was included in Bento's senior squad. The head coach cited the 23-year-old's good technical quality and strength with heading duels.

The national team is set to face Iraq and Lebanon on home turf on September 2 and 7, respectively.
