High school class hours will decrease from 2023 ahead of a full introduction of a credit system where students can select their own subjects in accordance with their aptitude and career path.
The Education Ministry on Monday announced a step-by-step implementation plan for the new credit scheme to take full effect at all schools from 2025.
The system was introduced at certain vocational schools last year with plans to expand the scheme to special purpose schools and a number of regular high schools from next year.
Starting in 2023, total class hours at high schools will be cut from two-thousand-890 to two-thousand-720. Currently, in order to complete 34 credit hours per semester, students need to take seven classes a day for at least four out of five days.
Under the revision, credit hours will drop to 32 and students can take six classes for three out of five days. Total class hours will further drop to two-thousand-560 under the credit system.
The ministry will announce related changes to next year's curricula within this year.
