A senior chief petty officer accused of sexual misconduct towards a colleague was found to have revictimized the woman, who died by apparent suicide earlier this month.

According to the Defense Ministry's report submitted to parliament on Friday, the Naval noncommissioned officer(NCO) was advised to act with caution by his unit chief after the May 27 incident was reported. The man then began to ostracize the woman.

The report also revealed details of the incident, saying the senior NCO continued to touch the woman’s hands during dinner at an off-base restaurant as well as putting her in a headlock.

The woman, a chief petty officer, initially told the unit chief about the incident and didn’t want to file a formal complaint. The chief then contacted the suspect, causing additional trauma.

The woman was assigned to another unit after making a formal complaint on August 9, three days before her death.

The military police have arrested the senior chief petty officer on charges of forced indecent act and have booked two others, including the unit chief, on charges of leaking information on a complainant.
