Health authorities may begin efforts as early as late September to transition the nation's response management into the so-called "With Corona" system of coexisting with COVID-19.

Senior Health Ministry official Lee Gi-il said on Friday that the coexistence model is under review for late September or early October, two weeks after it aims to administer 70 percent of the population with at least one vaccine shot.

The official said while the details of the new strategy remain as yet undecided, preparations are under way in line with new daily cases, vaccinations, the fatality rate, medical capacity and the persistence of the delta variant.

Amid consultations among relevant agencies, authorities are also gathering expert opinions.

"With Corona" refers to managing the rate of serious cases and death toll with vaccines, similar to the influenza virus.
