The Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) has stripped the duties of three senior officials in the Dongmyeong Unit deployed in Lebanon and ordered them to return home immediately. 

A military source said Thursday that the decision came after the JCS reviewed allegations that four officials, including a commander, had embezzled public funds, personally used donated goods and held an overnight gathering involving alcoholic drinks. 

The three officials are set to undergo further investigation by the military upon their return home and face disciplinary or legal action. 

Investigators at the Defense Ministry and JCS are said to have confirmed most of the allegations against the officials. 

It is unprecedented for the military to instruct senior officials of a unit operating abroad to return home.
