A court ordered the seizure of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ assets in the country to enforce an earlier ruling that the firm compensate South Korean victims of Japan’s wartime forced labor.

A law firm representing four victims or their families said on Wednesday that the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Court recently ordered the seizure of about 850 million won in bonds Mitsubishi owns in the local company LS Mtron.

The victims' legal counsels demanded Mitsubishi compensate them as ordered by the courts, and issue an apology for past atrocities, adding that their clients are open to negotiation.

Should Mitsubishi continue to refuse court orders, the victims plan to collect on the bonds from LS Mtron.

In November 2018, the South Korean Supreme Court ordered the Japanese firm to pay 80 to 150 million won in damages to each of the four victims or their families.
