A presidential secretary said on Wednesday that the country can complete full vaccination of 70 percent of the population by October by properly allocating the COVID-19 vaccines it has already secured.
Park Soo-hyun, the senior presidential secretary for public communication, made the remarks on a CBS radio show, explaining President Moon Jae-in's Liberation Day speech.
Moon said on Sunday that 70 percent of South Koreans will be fully vaccinated by October and the government will further raise the nation's target rate.
Park said that the president meant the government can achieve the 70 percent goal if it allocates the secured vaccines well.
He refused to elaborate on the details of discussions between a South Korean delegation and Moderna officials on the vaccine supply, but said the company promised to clarify its position by the weekend.
Last week, the four-member delegation visited Moderna headquarters in the U.S. to ask the vaccine maker to speed up its deliveries.
