Daily new COVID-19 cases jumped to one-thousand-805 on Wednesday.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said Wednesday that the new infections detected throughout Tuesday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 228-thousand-657.
The daily figure jumped about 430 from the previous day to climb over 18-hundred yet again after the three-day Liberation Day break.
Of the new cases, one-thousand-767 were local transmissions and 38 were from overseas.
By region, the greater metro area accounted for 62-point-six percent of the domestic total, reporting one-thousand-107 cases. The figure surpassed one-thousand after staying in the 800s for two days.
Non-capital regions added 660 cases, taking up 37-point-four percent of local cases.
Five more deaths were reported raising the death toll to two-thousand-178, with the fatality rate at zero-point-95 percent. The number of critically ill patients stands at 366, remaining above 300 for the 19th consecutive day.
