A total of one-thousand-373 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday following Liberation Day.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said Tuesday that the new infections detected throughout Monday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 226-thousand-854.

The daily figure dropped by more than 180 from the previous day to fall below 14-hundred for the first time in two weeks. Health authorities, however, remain alert as the cases are likely to increase later this week after the three-day Liberation Day break.

Of the new cases, one-thousand-323 were local transmissions and 50 were from overseas.

By region, the greater metro area accounted for 61-point-two percent of the domestic total, reporting 810 cases. Non-capital regions added 513 cases, taking up 38-point-eight percent of local cases.

Six more deaths were reported raising the death toll to two-thousand-173, with the fatality rate at zero-point-96 percent.

The number of critically ill patients stands at 354, remaining above 300 for the 18th consecutive day.
