Most secondary schools will open for the autumn semester on Tuesday amid the continued nationwide spread of COVID-19, with most elementary schools opening next Monday.
According to educational circles, the Education Ministry will allow students to return to school for in-person classes for the second semester, even under the highest Level Four social distancing.
At Level Four, which will be in place for the greater Seoul area until September 3, one-third of middle school students and half of first- and second-year high school students can attend school. Vaccinated high school seniors are not subject to the restrictions.
First and second graders at elementary schools in the capital region are allowed to attend in-person classes, while third to sixth graders will take online classes.
In non-capital regions currently under Level Three, two-thirds of middle school students and half of first- and second-year high school students can go back into classrooms.
First and second graders at elementary schools can go to school every weekday, while three-fourths of third to sixth graders can attend in-person classes.
