Four-hundred-thousand doses of Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine donated by the U.S. government will arrive in South Korea on Sunday.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said the batch will depart from Tennessee on Saturday to land at Incheon International Airport tomorrow.

KDCA director Jeong Eun-kyeong said the donation is part of bilateral partnership efforts to contain COVID-19.

South Korea approved the single-dose Janssen vaccine back in April, verifying its safety and efficacy.

The newly arriving doses, together with 100-thousand doses introduced last month in a separate purchase deal, will go toward vaccinating prison inmates, international sailors and those yet to receive shots at senior care facilities.

People who need to receive jabs right away or can't afford to wait for the second shot will also get the J&J vaccine.
