The government has signed a deal to purchase 30 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to be used next year.

A government vaccine task force said Friday that the deal includes the option to buy an additional 30 million.

Shipments will begin in next year's first quarter, while the country can buy the optional amount then as well if deemed necessary.

The government earlier said it was pushing to buy 50 million doses of mRNA vaccines to enable booster shots for 50 million people. It has now secured enough doses for thirty million of  its targeted total.

The country will seek more purchases if it's needed after reviewing further details such as its vaccination timetable and recipients.
