One-thousand-990 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday, hovering around the two-thousand mark for the third straight day.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that the new cases detected throughout Thursday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 220-thousand-182.
The daily tally marks the second largest since the outbreak of the virus in the country.
Of the new cases, one-thousand-913 were local transmissions, while 77 were from overseas.
The greater metro area accounted for 58-point-eight percent of local cases, reporting more than one-thousand for the third straight day. Non-capital areas added 788 cases, taking up 41-point-two percent.
Six more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-144. The fatality rate stands at point-97 percent.
The number of critically ill patients decreased by three from the previous day to 369 but stayed above 300 for the 14th straight day.
