A Navy noncommissioned officer was found dead after reporting that she was sexually harassed by a senior colleague.

The Navy said that the chief petty officer was found in her living quarters on base on Thursday afternoon. She is presumed to have killed herself.

The woman claimed that she was sexually harassed by a senior colleague at an off-base restaurant on May 27. The Navy reported that she met the commander of her unit last Saturday to disclose the incident before filing a formal complaint on Monday.

The Navy said she had been separated from the alleged perpetrator and the military police were investigating the case.

Investigation authorities in the Defense Ministry and the Navy, which are now looking into her death, vowed a thorough investigation.

In May, there was a similar case in which an Air Force master sergeant took her own life following an alleged sexual assault by a colleague.
