Authorities are mulling over tougher antivirus curbs as the country reported more than two-thousand daily infections for the first time on Wednesday.

In a briefing, senior health official Park Young-jun acknowledged the difficulty in containing the fourth wave of the outbreak with the current quarantine measures.

He said this week also appears to follow the same pattern as previous weeks, with numbers peaking on Wednesdays and Thursdays, adding that it’s unlikely new cases will decline in a short period of time.

Park said the government is reviewing what areas need complementary measures and that it will continue to examine additional, possibly tougher, safety guidelines for swift implementation.
