Land about one-point-seven times the size of Seoul's Yeouido area that was seized by Japan during its colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula has been restored by the government.

According to the Public Procurement Service on Tuesday, since 2012, it has investigated 52-thousand lots of suspected land under Japanese names, restoring ownership of six-thousand-162 lots, or four-point-nine million square meters, through last month.

The value of the restored property surpasses 139 billion won.

Procedures are under way to restore another one-thousand-354 lots of land from Japanese ownership.

In a project to change property designations from Japanese names, the central and municipal governments investigated some 34-thousand of 104-thousand lots last year for restoration.

The state agency plans to complete the restoration process by 2023.
