S. Korea Adds 1,540 COVID-19 Cases

South Korea reported one-thousand-540 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday amid the continued fourth wave of the pandemic.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Tuesday that the new cases detected throughout Monday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 213-thousand-987.

The daily figure rose by 48 from the previous day to climb above 15-hundred.

The latest tally marks the largest figure reported on a Tuesday. The previous high was recorded two weeks ago, when it posted one-thousand-363.

Of the new cases, one-thousand-476 were local transmissions, while 64 were from overseas.

The greater metro area accounted for 55-point-four percent of local cases, reporting 818 cases.

Non-capital areas added 658 cases, taking up 44-point-six percent of local cases. The ratio marks the largest since the fourth wave of the epidemic and remained above the 30-percent mark for the 24th consecutive day since July 18.

Nine more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-134. The fatality rate stands at one percent. 

The number of critically ill patients rose by 12 from the previous day to 379, staying above 300 for the eleventh straight day.
