S. Korea Reports 1,492 New COVID-19 Cases

South Korea reported one-thousand-492 new COVID-19 cases amid the continued fourth wave of the pandemic.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said on Monday that the new cases detected throughout Sunday raised the country's accumulated caseload to 212-thousand-448.

The daily figure dropped by 237 from the previous day but remained above one-thousand for 34 straight days.

The latest tally marks the largest figure reported on a Monday. The previous high was recorded two weeks ago, when it posted one-thousand-318.

Of the new cases, one-thousand-455 were local transmissions, while 37 were from overseas.

The greater metro area accounted for 60-point-five percent of local cases, reporting 881 cases.

Non-capital areas added 574 cases, taking up 39-point-six percent of local cases. The ratio remained above the 30 percent mark for the 23rd consecutive day since July 18.

Four more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-125. The fatality rate stands at one percent. 

The number of critically ill patients dropped by nine from the previous day to 367, but stayed above 300 for the tenth straight day.
