The South Korean baseball team, the defending Olympic champion, has ended the Tokyo Olympics empty handed.

In the bronze medal match Saturday at Yokohama Stadium, Korea lost to the Dominican Republic 6 to 10, ending the Olympic tournament in fourth place.

Team Korea was not off to a good start but managed to overtake their opponent to take a  6 to 5 lead in the fifth inning, including a home-run from captain Kim Hyun-soo. The team eventually blew the late lead with Oh Seung-hwan allowing five runs in the top of the eighth.

South Korea won all nine matches in the 2008 Beijing Games to win gold. Baseball was reinstated to the Olympics for Tokyo, but will be excluded again for Paris 2024.
