The 85th National Winter Sports Festival has opened in the southwestern city of Muju.
Some three thousand athletes from 14 local cities and provinces, including those from overseas are participating in the three-day games, the largest in the event's history.
Athletes will be competing in five events skating, skiing, biathlon, curling and ice hockey.
Seoul and other cities in North Cholla Province Jeonju and Iksan are also hosting some of the games.
The opening ceremony at Muju Resort was covered live by KBS-TV.
