Rival party candidates for the April 7 Seoul mayoral by-election will face off in their first TV debate on Monday.
The ruling Democratic Party’s(DP) Park Young-sun and main opposition People Power Party’s(PPP) Oh Se-hoon will take to the stage at 10:40 p.m. on broadcaster MBC's “100 Minute Debate.”
Alleged land speculation by employees of the state-run Korean Land and Housing Corporation, or LH, and soaring home prices are expected to be some of the key issues discussed.
Park is expected to raise suspicions over a piece of land owned by Oh's in-laws. They allegedly received compensation after the land was included in a Seoul city development plan, which was approved while Oh was mayor. Oh is expected to criticize the Moon administration's real estate policies.
The two candidates will face each other in a second television debate at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, to be jointly broadcast by KBS and MBC.
