Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Friday that the government will extend the current social distancing measures for another two weeks, including the ban on gatherings of five or more people.

The extension will go into effect starting next Monday and run for two weeks.

Chung made the announcement during a government meeting on COVID-19 responses in Seoul, noting that daily cases still remained in the 300s and 400s.

The prime minister expressed concerns that people's alertness against the epidemic is waning as fatigue over social distancing rules increases.

Chung said that the government will adopt additional antivirus measures to stabilize the current situation in the fight against the virus.

He said the government will enhance management of users of crowded public facilities and prohibit people with symptoms from using them, while extending virus tests.

The greater Seoul area will remain under Level Two and the rest of the country will remain under Level One-point-Five.
