Prosecutors have seized the residence of former President Park Geun-hye, who did not pay 21-point-five billion won in fines and forfeitures after her convictions for influence-peddling and accepting funds from the state spy agency while in office.
According to sources within the judiciary on Tuesday, the Seoul District Central Prosecutors' Office seized Park's house in Seoul's Seocho district last month.
In 2018, the court accepted the prosecution's request and froze Park's house worth two-point-eight billion won as appraised by the government at the time, as well as her savings and checks worth three billion won.
After the Supreme Court confirmed Park's 20-year sentence and fines and forfeitures totaling 21-point-five billion won in January, the ex-president failed to meet the February 22 deadline to voluntarily complete the payments.
Prosecutors have so far collected two-point-six billion won in forfeitures from two of Park's financial assets.
